Fourth Annual Help Willy’s Friends Pet Fair
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro Visits The Pet Fair

What a day for a Pet Fair!
The sun showered us with its warmth, not that we needed our hearts warmed any more than they already were, surrounded by so many happy dogs and kitties. Folks and families came with their dogs for a day of fun, to look for their newest furry family member, to enjoy the live music and totally blow the diet, or just to get out and soak up some of that sunshine while they shopped for handcrafted merchandise and (pet-related and not pet-related) services offered by participating vendors.
It was a very full day of activities, with frisbee and agility demos, and the added attraction this year of a sheep herding demonstration. There were dogs dancing for us, and of course, our infamous Parade of Stars showcasing the dogs brought by approximately 50 rescue groups and municipal shelters, each dog being introduced to prospective adopters to the tune of claps and cheers from the crowd. To date (the final tabulation is not yet in), we are thrilled that 31 dogs and cats found their forever homes as a result of this year’s fair. Last but not least, also new this year, was our Owner and Pet Look-a-like contest. The crowd was our judging panel and although the “judges” were leaning toward a gray curly-haired lady and her gray curly-haired Poodle, who would have thought that a bald guy and his hairless cat would win First Prize!
Kids enjoyed free face-painting while Mom & Dad enjoyed the food, music and crafts. Fido and Fifi indulged in complimentary nail clippings, pet blessings, having their photos taken with their pack, and yummy treats being offered left and right. Does it get any better than this?
We raffled off a flat-screen TV, a 21-speed bike, and an iPod, making for three very happy guests. Our student division, SHOPP (Students Helping Overpopulated Pets Program) also raffled off an oversized Teddy Bar.
Did you spend the day with us? If not, please don’t miss our Fifth Annual Help Willy’s Friends Pet on May 19, 2013 (always the Sunday after Mother’s Day). Mark your calendars and see you there!
