Help Willy’s Friends Funds

Please select one of these funds on the donation form and your donation will be used specifically for that program.

Willy’s General Fund

Willy’s General Fund allows our organization to grow stronger on a day to day basis. It comprises award money for animal shelters and rescue organizations so that they can keep their doors open and continue to accept adoptable animals. It helps us to grow the Durham Pet Fair bigger and better each year. And it will be the source of our future warehouse that will hold even more food and supplies – as always, free to any animal welfare charity in need. In short, it is the fund that keeps the heart of Help Willy’s Friends beating.

Help Willy’s Friends Meals on Wheels Fund

We’ve all heard about the Meals on Wheels program which helps support the independence and well-being of homebound seniors by delivering nutritious meals on a regular basis. What many people don’t know, or don’t realize, is that these recipients often give these meals to their companion pets because they can’t afford, or don’t have access to, dog or cat food.

Since it is so important that both humans and domestic animals eat food that is appropriate for them, Help Willy’s Friends has partnered with a local Meals on Wheels program and is providing cans and bags of food to be delivered for their pets at the same time. This ensures that the recipients eat the meals being delivered to them and that their pets have food appropriate to their species. Currently, HWF works with Meals on Wheels to provide pet food to residents of Durham, Middlefield, Middletown, Portland, Haddam, East Hampton, East Haddam, and Cromwell. We hope to expand our assistance to cover all of Connecticut in the not too distant future.

If you know a Meals on Wheels recipient who may be giving their meals to their companion pets, please encourage them to contact their Meals on Wheels program representative and request pet food deliveries.

Emergency Medical Fund (EMF)

Many animals are dumped on the street or are surrendered due to their owner’s inability to pay for their pet’s sudden illness or medical emergency. It becomes their rescuer’s responsibility to raise the money necessary for their medical care. That’s where we come in. A donation to this fund may, literally, give an animal that much-needed and well-deserved second chance at life.

Spay/Neuter Fund

  • Every day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born in the United States.
  • Some animal shelters/rescue organizations spend over 50% of their entire yearly budget on spaying and neutering their resident animals, alone.
  • Every year 6-7 million animals are euthanized in shelters because there just aren’t enough people to provide them with homes.
  • Animal overpopulation has reached a crisis point.

Please donate a Help Willy’s Friends spay/neuter voucher to a local animal shelter/rescue organization. Your $100 donation guarantees one less litter of homeless animals.

For Veterinarians

Help Willy’s Friends is seeking veterinarians to join our Spay/Neuter Voucher Program. If you are a licensed veterinarian willing to donate or discount your services toward ending animal overpopulation, please contact Laura Berman at laura@helpwillysfriends.org

If you are a veterinarian who would like to become a drop-off location for food and supplies to be picked up by Help Willy’s Friends volunteers periodically, please contact Mark Paturzo at willy@helpwillysfriends.org or call 203.988.1718.
