My Guinea Pig Patches

by Victoria

On the day before Thanksgiving I was playing with my guinea pig Patches and she jumped out of her play tube and injured her leg. At first I didn’t see her limping, but after a week I saw her limping with both legs. After six weeks she was walking much better. Two weeks later she running around and not limping any more. At first it was my Mom that thought something was wrong with Patches, but I said “no”, but then I saw results from Patches. Now she is good as new and we play together every day! I love Patches!

Animal Food Drives

By: Kayla C.

Have you ever gone to the supermarket or some convenient store with a HELP WILLY’S FRIENDS poster and bucket? Well I have. Recently I’ve been visiting the supermarket, I’ve been looking In the HELP WILLY’S FRIENDS bin. I noticed some trash in the bin. Well here is another question. What kind of person would throw trash in an animal food drive? We can make a difference! Save up your allowance and instead of spending it on chewing gum, donate it to the animal shelter.

So please, please, please, make a small donation, which is a donation difference to the sweet animals of the shelters. Thank you for reading this, and thank YOUUUU……… (from the animals). =)

Branford Animal Shelter

By: Vanessa R.

The Branford Animal Shelter plays a big part in my life and the lives of Branford, and North Branford. The Branford Animal Shelter is the one place where I actually do enjoy spending my time. I am a volunteer at the Branford Animal Shelter as of just about three years ago, and ever since I have started there I have felt nothing but welcome there. The staff is always there to greet me and tell me what they need me to do. I always love going to the animal shelter early in the morning and helping out by cleaning the cat cages, dog kennels, or our furry little friends that we currently have. After they finish cleaning the cat cages, dog kennels, and our furry little friends homes, we socialize them so they can be adoptable. One thing that I absolutely love about the Branford Animal shelter is that it is a no kill animal shelter, which basically means that there is no time limit on the animals stay at the shelter. The staff and volunteers at the animal shelter love all the animals and are happy and sad to see them go. We have had a lot of successful adoptions and some just take a little extra time. But all in all the animals will always have a home while they are with us. Recently we have had another successful adoption at the shelter. One of our feline friends “Pizazz” has been adopted after about a year. Pizazz was a regular black cat about 7 years old, who was friendly who suffered from unknown allergies. Pizazz didn’t really prefer other cats, but for the most part she got along with a few other feline friends of hers. She recently got adopted about the second week of May 2008. We are very happy that she is doing well in her new home all the way in Bethany, CT. Congratulations Pizazz! But that is only one of our great success stories here at the shelter, and one of many to come. The shelter is always in need of volunteers to help out. If you would like to come help out the shelter you can either stop by the shelter at 749 East Main Street, Branford CT 06405, or you can visit us at www.branfordanimalshelter.org and print out an application then bring it in to us. If you need help finding this location or any questions about any of the animals, volunteering, potential adoptions, questions or concerns place contact us at (203)-315-4125. One last thing before I go help out with the animals, they always accept donations! If you`d like to donate something please call us and see if we can use it or just stop by and drop it off. Help Willy’s Friends has helped us out with the donations that you have provided to us and all the other shelters in need of donations. Thanks for listening!

My Loving Cat, Biggy

By: Kayla
(True story)

On the night of July 4, 2007 my beloved cat named Biggy ran into the street frightened by all the commotion of firecrackers and loud booms. Soon enough, a car came. The next morning my mom and I were stepping out the door to go to the super market. My mom went down to the car while I locked the door behind us. As I took a step-down the hill, I saw my cat next to the door just sitting there unormaly. He got up and started limping toward me. I took a look at his hind leg and saw that he was wounded. He was bleeding badly. He had a minor cut on his ear, but that was bleeding too. The cuts affected the way he walked. As I re-opened door, he started limping up the stairs. I called my mom to take a look at his injury. We forgot all about grocery shopping. We took him to the vet RIGHT AWAY. They told us that to visit The Norwalk Animal Hospital to perform surgery. He had to stay overnight. The doctors found a broken bone in the same leg as the bleeding injury. He had been hit by a car. Before I left the room, I saw a sad look on his furry little face. I told him it will be all right. A couple of days later we came to take him home. The fur on his leg was shaved. He had a “cone”(is what the doctors called it) on his head. The cone was to prevent him from ripping out the stitches in his leg. We took him home in his cat carrier. In a couple of days we took his “cone” off and he was recovering. Thank you doctor and the staff of The Norwalk Animal Hospital for making my loving cat, Biggy recover.
